Smugglers Music Presents Dave Arcari
The Smuggler Hastings
SLIDE guitarist & songwriter Dave Arcari's National guitar-driven alt.blues owes as much to trash country, punk and rockabilly as it does pre-war Delta blues. His solo EP Blue Country Steel was released on Buzz Records during a nine-date run of shows at Edinburgh Fringe. Arcari's subsequent solo releases are Something old, something borrowed (BRS012006 release date 4 Sept 2006), Something new, something blue (BRS022006 release date 6 Nov 2006) and Come With Me (BRS032006 release date 5 Feb 2007). A series of shows with the mighty Alabama3 (by personal request from the band), gigs with Seasick Steve, Son of Dave and Jon Spencer and a tour in Estonia (including headline slots at the Augustibluus Festival) have helped establish Arcari as a formidable international solo performer and built a media reputation as a 'hell-raising National guitar madman.'

A Slice of Fried Gold Presents
Live at The Old Queen's Head, Angel, London
What began as a band has become an event. The members of Faulkner wanted an indie night in London that wasn't doing things in a 'different' or gimmicky way, but simply doing things in the right way. Because music is a part of us and how we see ourselves, because A Slice of Fried Gold is run like the nights we always wanted to attend; this is your indie luxury, indie as a boutique atmosphere of membership and society. All that's left is to come and join in. Be whoever you want to be: we're in this together.

The Five Families Present
Live at The 229, Great Portland Street, London
The Penny Black Remedy - www.myspace.com/thepennyblackremedy
Celtic, Country, Punk Superstars the Penny Black remedy are a powerhouse of a
band, they remind you just how awesome live music can be in the right hands.
Those hands are that of their lead man Keith Thomson, who along with Marijana
Radcliffe take you on a vocal journey full of lifes darker twists and turns
and drop you at the end of the night in a place called bloody good time!
Shabby Rogue www.myspace.com/shabbyrogue
A band variously described both as 'angst-fuelled alternative', 'lyrical and
beautiful' and 'plain original'. The Rogue recall a gallant wardrobe of 1960s
heroes from Arthur Lee to Bob Dylan, while imprinting their influences with
fresh emotions and ideas. An outrageously good live act.
Plus support from
Duppy www.myspace.com/duppyband
Alexander Wolfe www.myspace.co./alexanderwolfe
FOLLOWED BY: Bloody Awful Poetry DJ's (also involved in the Indie Awards) 'That
Perfect Fumble' and 'The Silent Poet'
ABOUT THE FIVE FAMILIES - "Bands for Bands"
THE FIVE FAMILIES is an organisation set up by a group of like minded musicians
to offer decent, well conceived gigs in the Capital. Many of us work full time
on the live circuit, playing, engineering and promoting. We all give our time
for nothing to help promote live music, the excellent bands that feature on our
website and at our live nights are among the best unsigned and self-signed acts
currently playing in London and the wider UK.

WAH WAH 45s Present
Live @ The Pigalle Club, London
A showcase from two incredible Indy Award nominated artists!!
JAMIE FINLAY
Jamie Finlay is a composer, producer, musician and DJ from Manchester. His releases have garnered rave reviews and established him as a burgeoning figure in the underground UK music scene selling as far a field as Japan, Australia, America and all over Europe racking up heavyweight DJ support from the likes of Mr Scruff and Gilles Peterson along the way.
Critics are hailing him as a name to watch and have compared his sound to Prince, Plantlife, George Clinton and, legendary producers, the Mizell Brothers. After a couple of stunning single releases on Wah Wah 45s, and well received live shows at The Jazz Cafe and Cargo, he is currently writing his debut album due for release later this year.

ELOVA
Elova were formed in early 2006 and by the end of the Summer they were already playing sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Now their high energy live performances are fast getting a reputation on the London music scene. One beats a box, one rips riffs out of an acoustic guitar and she sings her heart out.
This 'less-is-more' attitude, along with singer T-Bird's infectious energy brings a compelling rawness and honesty to their sound - hailed as "Erykah Badu meets Outkast".
2007 has seen them triple nominated for the London Indy Awards, touring the major UK festivals (Glastonbury, Electric Picnic..), featured artists on MusFlash TV 'Spotlight Sessions', supporting Omar and playing a sell-out show with the One Taste Collective at the Jazz Cafe, London.

Making It Live Presents
Live @ The Rock Garden, London
This is where the INDYs all started as a fun awards for bands that played at The Rock Garden. We are delighted to present some of the very best emerging artists currently on the live circuit - all destined for great things!
Dawn Kinnard
http://www.myspace.com/dawnkinnard
"This gravel-voiced daughter of a preacher man is a big hit with BBC Radio 6 listeners, and understandably so. Given her strict Pennsylvanian upbringing it is perhaps unsurprising that she counts The Staple Singers and Sister Rosetta Tharpe among her influences, but songs such as "Devil's Flame" have a seductively noir flavour, Kinnard's backing band coming on like Nick Cave's Bad Seeds with Marc Ribot (Tom Waits) on guitar." The Independent, The Top 25 Indie Acts for 2008
"Sensational" The Sunday Times
"Clear the Way is a modern classic" Guardian Unlimited
"Next Big Thing" Q Magazine
Maxfield
http://www.myspace.com/maxfieldvalerie
The past year has been a non-stop rollercoaster ride for MAXFIELD: From a wildly sought-after slot at the 2006 In The City showcase and an appearance on Channel 4's Road To V 2007, to sharing the stage with the likes of The Guillemots, The Magic Numbers and Air Traffic, to name but a few. There were numerous radio appearances and airplay from BBC Radio 6, BBC Cambridge, Pulserated, Ison and ZEN Fm Australia, while tours of Italy and Prague, had great reviews and bought new fans to the fore MAXFIELD are exploding onto the British music scene with off-the-wall charisma, ruthless ambition and killer tunes. Comparisons to Lamb, Portishead, Tina Turner, Janice Joplin and Red Hot Chilli's, are flattering, yet still do no justice to the dynamic, progressive electro rock sound that MAXFIELD have mastered.
Headpsace
http://www.myspace.com/headspacerocks
Headspace is a band, a unit, and what they play is the product of hard-work, while understanding instinctively what to discard has been a help too. Now with a stabilized line-up, David Page's plangent chords bring attack and power to Ross Towner's trenchant songs, while the rhythm section - Ross (bass) and Lee Verralls (drums) - is as muscular as anyone else around. Headspace have served time getting it right, doing the gigs and working the rehearsals. They are sharp, and getting sharper all the time. No Question.
Firebug

Our other nominee Firebug are based in LA so can't make the showcase but we will be playing tracks from their new CD 'Season For Change'

www.myspace.com/naomiroper
Naomi Roper has had two singles releases on itunes and combines classic song writing with an emotional and modern edge. Her voice is truly unique. Naomi has just finished a tour supporting The Hoosiers and the success of her live performances have been mirrored in the number of hits on her myspace and you tube, where Naomi's unique cover of a Michael Jackson track has achieved air time and plaudits...and this is even before it's been officially released.
Rokhsan - 8:30pm
www.myspace.com/poundformytambourine

Christina Marie - 9:00pm
www.myspace.com/christinamariemusic
Christina is an 18 year old singer and cellist. Although classically trained in both, her songs are distinctly alternative. She writes and plays all her music and has an infectious passion for performing that is entirely unique.
Kal Lavelle-9:30pm
www.myspace.com/kallavellemusic
Kal Lavelle grew up in the beautiful Dublin Mts. Kal gigged in Dublin supporting James Brown, The Beach Boys, Paddy Casey, Won the 2FM(Irelands National radio station) Song contest at 20 then went on tour in America with Michael Flatleys Feet Of Flames as a musician. After returning she felt like a move was on the cards and as her foreign language skills werent up to scratch London seemed like the natural step! Listening to Kal Lavelles set will make you feel like youve just met, fell in love and had your heart broken all in the space of one night.
