INDY music awards - highlighting the very best in emerging live music

PR & SPONSORSHIP AGENCIES APPOINTED FOR INDY MUSIC AWARDS 2008

Burt Greener Communications and Jam2Day have been appointed to handle the public relations campaign and sponsorship for the second year of the INDY Music Awards 2008 which will take place in London this April.

The INDY Music Awards were set up in early 2007 to recognise and honour the hard work of independent live music venues, promoters and the artists that they showcase and help to develop.

Based in Glasgow, Burt Greener Communications have been retained after managing the PR campaign for the 2007 awards following a three-way pitch. In 2008, the Glasgow based agency has been tasked with both the national and regional press campaign to promote the event beyond the London media that it attracted in 2007.

Jam2Day are the first sponsorship agency to be hired for the awards and will seek a headline sponsor as well as sponsorship for each award category and various secondary sponsors for the award ceremony itself.

Last year's awards concentrated on the London music scene but this year have been opened up to cover the whole of the UK. In 2006, 121 London based venues and promoters nominated the best 218 artists out of an estimated 40,000 who played on their stages throughout the year. 30,000 votes were then placed on the INDY Music Awards website by fans and the eventual winners were picked from a shortlist of 36 artists by an industry panel. The artists were then awarded at a glittering award ceremony in London by the likes of Glen Matlock, Tom McRae, Marcella Detroit, Omar and legendary producer Kevin Shirley.

With the live music industry in the UK now estimated to be worth £743m a year, the INDY Music Awards play a key role in identifying the top 0.5% of emerging independent talent in the UK. Building upon the success of last year, The Indy Music Awards 2008 presents a unique opportunity for brands and organisations to reach millions of gig going music fans, and thousands of the very best emerging live music artists, independent venue owners and promoters across the UK as well as key players in the Independent UK Music Industry.
